Aldi, Carnforth

Commercially this site lies in an excellent location for a food retailer as it’s highly visible lying on the edge of Carnforth town centre, next to Booths on the A6.  When Pendle Projects instructed SPC on this project the site already had a mixed retail and employment consent albeit for small retail units.  Despite the fact that the site had been on the market demand for the permitted scheme was limited.   SPC prepared and project managed a fresh planning application for an Aldi store.

The store design is slightly unusual in that the store is elevated to street level with an empty void below it due to the sloping nature of the site.  The application was dealt with swiftly by Lancaster City Council and fully supported by the development control committee.  The store opened on the 23rd October with the usual long queues – no doubt the store will be another success for Aldi.
